![]() ![]() The first three of these five wizards were known in the Mannish tongues of the Lord of the Rings series as Saruman "man of skill" ( Rohirric), Gandalf "elf of the staff" (northern Men), and Radagast "tender of beasts" (possibly Westron). They were sent by the Valar to assist the people of Middle-earth to contest Sauron. Outwardly resembling Men but possessing much greater physical and mental power, they were called Istari ( Quenya for "Wise Ones") by the Elves. The fact that it's pseudo-medieval was born from the fact that he hated technology and the industrial revolution. The wizards of Middle-earth were Maiar: spirits of the same order as the Valar, but lesser in power. Writers like Terry Brooks helped to cement the elements Tolkien created into a genre (in other words, they copied a lot of stuff from him and people liked it and, realising there was potential there, kept on writing in that vein), but Tolkien really was the first. Seriously, try to find anything that we would classify as either high or low fantasy that was written earlier. He wasn't just the first person to make it popular. While it's true that the hobbit came before the lord of the rings, Tolkien did create the fantasy genre. For the first thing the first fantasy book he made was Biblo not LotR :), and for the second Im very sure he wasnt the first one, but maybe the first one to make it popular. You cannot possibly say the LotR was copying Zelda, because Zelda borrowed many of the ideas that came from LotR. For example: (tall, fair, immortal elves associated with archery), (talking trees), (hobbits), (ext). Tolkein came up with many of the aspects of fantasy that were associate with the genre today. ![]() ![]() You MUST keep in mind that LotR came WAY before video games were even invented. ![]() You would probably match her with Ghoma from OoT. In this part of the series, you will see a giant spider called Shelob. And the "talking trees" are called Ents.Īlso, the TBS version failed to show Return of the King, the last installment. Also, no such thing as "half links", because they are "half lings", also known as Hobbits. I think you mean the good wizard Gandalf the Gray/White. This book was created over 50 years ago, so if ANYTHING Zelda copied LotR. Plus, Lord of the Rings is an orignial classic BOOK that Peter Jackson made into a movie. (Just so you know there are three installments: Fellowship of the Ring, the Two Towers, Return of the King) The TBS version of LotR cut out a majority of the films, so making assumtions off of the TV versions is never accurate. You need to buy the movies and see the whole thing without the editing and commercial pauses. You also have a talking tree (like the Deku tree except this one was walking).ĭoesn't it seem like Zelda kind of thing?įirst of all, taping movies = disaster. I've heard the name Gandort (sounds almost like Ganondorf), I've heard half links, hobbits would be close to Korkories (how ever it's spelled ), and such. I've never watched this movie before and it kinda reminds me of the Zelda games. I just started watching it today because I taped it yesterday on tv. ![]()
